Well… I’m staying down the road from seventeen, so lucky me I get to walk to work ☺ This morning I woke up at 7am – way too early but the traffic going past our flat is ridiculously loud, plus the nerves were kicking in. When I arrived at the doors of seventeen I became super nervous, but the offices are really beautiful and everyone looked so friendly that I soon began to relax. My morning went by quickly and before I knew it, it was lunchtime. Went to this gorgeous deli called Miss K with some friends – the food was divine. When I got back to seventeen, I sat in on the production meeting and they asked me to be one of the models for their shoot on Thursday – it’s for the July dance issue! I’m really excited and really nervous. The rest of the afternoon I had to help out with writing a quiz and then sadly it was home time.

Just another day at seventeen :-)

15 April 2009

Today I arrived at work a bit early so I got straight down to work. I had to call some of the hotties from the Do You Know a Hottie? competition that ran on www.seventeen.co.za for the Guys Talk page – can I just say that the twins are really cute?! Check out the guys’ answers in the June issue on sale 1 June! Plus, keep a lookout on www.seventeen.co.za, there's a hot, new guys section launching in the next few weeks!! I love how relaxed the environment is here at seventeen – it would be a dream come true to work here after I've finished studying. I can’t seem to get through to the twins?! Lol. Had to try on some of the clothing for the shoot on Thursday – I was lucky because I got to choose my outfit first ☺ Can’t wait!! After lunch I helped reorganise the beauty cupboard and I attended a team meeting in the boardroom – it was really interesting to see how they get the magazine sorted and all that stuff.

This morning was really quiet and I’ve just been observing what everyone is doing. Today’s the day I get to model for the Dance issue! At around 2pm I went to get my hair and make-up done with three other girls. It was really fun talking to the other girls and getting to know them while the make-up artists dolled us all up. I think they did a great job ☺ All the girls looked really beautiful. We were then driven to the location where they were shooting – it was a beautiful venue and the photographer was really sweet and always helping out when necessary. She made all my nerves disappear and I had so much fun! Check me out in the July issue on sale 1 July!

6 April – first day jitters
When I arrived at seventeen I was so nervous – my dad had to tell me to relax and just be myself. When I met Liza, she made me feel right at home. I had the opportunity to sit in on one of their briefing meetings and to meet the rest of the team. They were all so welcoming. I later joined them for another meeting, I was so amazed at how many things have to be done in preparing the magazine – these ladies really know their stuff! They’re such an inspiration. Today I wrote a letter for the mail page – it’s the first time I’ve written about seventeen (hope it did it right! lol). My first day came to an end so quickly, I’m really looking forward to see what the rest of the week has in store for me!

7 April – I love celebs!
Phew! I had such a great day, I helped sort out the library, putting all the seventeen magazines from different countries in the right order – there are so many and I thought it was just SA and America… boy was I wrong! I also got the great job of updating their celebrity A-Z list… It was awesome doing research on up-and-coming celebs and stars I didn’t even know about until today – so much fun! If you can't live without your daily celeb gossip fix, check out the www.seventeen.co.za updates – the bomb!

8 April – recycling and typing
Today was all about recycling! I sorted some papers and job bags out that needed to go in the recycling box (I had fun with that because in between sorting them out, I read them lol!) I also helped type up a few stories the team needed, which was great – I’ve got this secret little obsession when it comes to typing, I just love it. I even had some time to read some of the international copies of seventeen that were really interesting. And I snapped some pics of the office for my memory book!

9 April – my last day
I am sad to leave seventeen – it’s been an experience of a lifetime to intern here. I’ll really miss everything about this place, the working atmosphere as well as the amazing staff who put together the wonderful magazine we have the opportunity of reading every month. I have run out of words, I really have no clue how else to describe how great the week has been for me. Thanks a million you guys rock! It was the best week ever.

Typing up a storm!

Starting on Monday morning was nerve-wracking! Trust me! Meeting Liza West was even worse – lol, I'm kidding, she was super sweet and soo welcoming ☺ Thanks Liza! I was introduced to my work area – Mac computer – awesome! Straight away I was thrown, okay, lightly tossed, into a production meeting and I got to meet all the funky people working behind the scenes of 17. I was given the April edition, who wouldn’t want to be staring at that cover all day? Zac-alicious! Had an opportunity to write a letter for next month’s issue, phone some readers and UrbanScouts for Anja (Fashion & Beauty Director) – she was looking for contributors for one of our Skin Care Guide pages in the June issue (sounds so fun to say “our” hehe!). Then I started some research for the next issue and before I knew it, day one had finished!

check out all the beauty products!

31 March 2009

Starting my day off with production meetings is something I really could get used to! The fun interaction reminds me of high school all over again – chatting about hot soccer players is definitely a good way to start the day. After the meeting, I helped with sorting out the March issue job bags into piles – yes “we” ☺ recycle at 17. Even the bins in the kitchen area are separated for recycling – super cool. Made myself some hot choc and continued my work. My time at seventeen seems to be slipping by so quickly…

1 April 2009

April Fools Day! Wasn’t ready for any bad pranks today. Thank goodness the seventeam had so many deadlines to meet, most of them forgot. Now I could breathe a sigh of relief, I’ve always had a nightmare about being the intern picked on, on April Fools Day ☺
Liza gave me a set of instructions for the day, her and Khwezi were headed off to a launch party – oh yeah! While Liza was away, Pam (Sub Editor) had me busy. Haha! She’s just as sweet! I had to photocopy some articles and pics from various mags for the team… To get the job using a photocopier has been a recurring nightmare too. Ash (Designer) saved my day, thanks Ash! She’s a star, always willing to help me with my thousands of probs. Next I sorted out the back-up cupboard and printed stickers for it. ☺ Wanna know the best part? I was able to sip on the new Loaded natural smoothie drink… kick-starting my afternoon with a kiwi drink was cool. Rest of the day I sorted out the library – who knew seventeen was published in so many languages, fun-kee! Lastly, I had a personal meeting with Khwezi and Liza on my Digi Diva piece for the June issue. If I thought I knew what nerves were, I was sadly mistaken! Hope none of them noticed my twitching leg! ☺ [The June issue hits shelves on 1 June]

Missed Liza today ☹ she was off sick, but never fear, seventeen goes on! I was set back to phoning girls for the Skin Care Guide piece – it was so nice to have a chat with other seventeen lovers, all the girls were super friendly and so willing! Thanks for all your help ladies! For the best beauty tips, check out www.seventeen.co.za
I helped Pam by photocopying pages for the June issue job bags, doing the stockists list and various other things. Then I was honoured to join in and listen to the Karaoke Katy competition finalists… Congrats to Chantel who was chosen as the winner! Highlight of my day: getting to phone the contestants from www.seventeen.co.za's Do You Know a Hottie competition for the Guys Talk page in the June issue. Glad they couldn’t see me blushing over the phone!

3 April 2009

Today started off badly… I overslept, not that much that I couldn’t get to 17 on time, but I almost walked under a ladder on my way to the office! Okay, I’m not superstitious but why tempt fate? My last day flew by so quickly I couldn’t believe it. It seemed like Monday had only been the day before! I finished my Digi Diva piece (more nerves because Liza would have to read it) and continued phoning the hotties. My day rushed by and it was time for me to bid my farewells. I personally hate goodbyes so it was one of my most awkward days ever… I had the obvious solution: never say bye and come back on Monday! However, things don’t always go my way. Thanks to Khwezi and Liza for the awesome opportunity and for being so friendly and understanding, I’m not that good at hiding my nerves LOL! And to all those 17 lovers out there – interning at 17 is an awesome experience and def something you should put on your to-do-list ☺
